WDI was originally formed as D.A.R.E. (Downtown Area Revitalization Effort) in 1977 as a public-private partnership between the City of Wilmington, New Hanover County and the private sector. Our organization has had many successes over the past 34 years. Today, the six main areas of focus for WDI are business recruitment, business retention, quality of life, developer services, fundraising and public outreach.

OUR MISSION is to promote building approaches, collectively known as “green building”, that are environmentally responsible, healthy and financially sound.

Cape Fear Green Building Alliance seeks to bring together professionals in the building industry, including architects, designers, contractors, builders, realtors and developers, as well as concerned members of the general public.

We support education for both industry professionals and the public regarding green building practices, technologies, and products, and are committed to furthering the awareness and presence of green building in the Cape Fear Region.

Strumming for Vets is an organization that has come up with a few ways to help restore the feeling of joy and self-worth that can be lost after extreme exposure and trauma. With music, donated guitars and teachers donating their time, our veterans are given an ancient yet new type of therapy that works!
